A Day in Fairfax: Good Food, Sweet Treats, and Local Art

This weekend, my wife and I spent a relaxing afternoon in Fairfax, California — a small town north of San Francisco full of charm, creativity, and a real sense of community.

We started our day at Amélie, a cozy spot perfect for a leisurely lunch. We shared a delicious omelette, savory mussels with fries, and a glass of red wine imported from France. It was the kind of meal that slows you down in the best way, reminding you to savor good food and good company.

After lunch, we couldn’t resist stopping by Fairfax Scoop, a beloved local ice cream shop. A scoop of their homemade ice cream was the perfect treat on a warm afternoon — simple, sweet, and a little nostalgic.

Our final stop was at The Ranch, a beautifully reimagined historic property that has been part of West Marin’s landscape since the 1800s. Now transformed by The Still Collective and a team of talented local artists and designers, The Ranch has become a vibrant cultural hub. Art galleries, sculptures, and thoughtfully designed spaces fill the property, creating a space where history, creativity, and community spirit come together. Strolling through the grounds, it felt like every corner had a story to tell — a celebration of local artistry and the heart of Fairfax itself.

It was a perfect afternoon filled with good food, local flavor, and inspiring creativity — a reminder of all the small-town magic just waiting to be explored.
