A December Wedding At The Legion of Honor

Some weddings unfold like a beautifully paced story—and this one was no exception. From meaningful first-date memories to dancing beneath museum columns, this winter celebration was full of love, heritage, and thoughtful design.

We began the day with a beautiful Hindu Wedding Ceremony where you can read all about it here in its own Behind The Lens dedicated post. The post-ceremony session consisted of portraits in two very personal locations for the couple. Their first date was at Blue Bottle Coffee in the Fillmore District, so we returned there together to capture some quiet moments among the cafe’s soft winter light and industrial textures.

Afterward, we headed to Alta Vista Park, where golden hour bathed the hilltop in warm light. The city stretched out behind them while they laughed, embraced, and took it all in. It was intimate, relaxed, and entirely them.

As evening approached, we made our way to the Legion of Honor—a timeless San Francisco venue that always impresses. Guests arrived to a cocktail hour in the museum galleries, sipping drinks while wandering through art and sculpture. Dinner followed in the Legion Café, where candlelight, florals, and thoughtful table settings transformed the space into an elegant dining experience.

Speeches gave way to cake and desserts, and then the energy shifted. The band Desi Offbeats brought the house down with infectious music rooted in Indian wedding traditions, and the dance floor stayed packed all night. Watching generations of family and friends celebrate together—dancing, laughing, fully present—was one of those moments where you just feel lucky to be a part of it.

Throughout the evening, I focused on capturing both the grandeur of the space and the quiet in-between moments: glances between the couple, the reactions during toasts, the way hands found each other mid-song. It’s always my goal to document not just what a wedding looked like, but what it felt like—and this one felt joyful, grounded, and full of meaning.

To the couple: thank you for trusting me to tell your story. And to future couples considering the Legion of Honor, I can’t recommend it enough if you want your reception to feel like a celebration within a piece of history.
