MATT DEA
San Francisco Photographer. Intimate Weddings, City Hall, and Engagements.
Hi, I’m Matt.
I document the quiet, in-between moments that make your story feel like yours. My work is rooted in emotion, connection, and natural light. The stillness before a smile. The way light falls at the end of the day. The small gestures that often go unseen.
When you work with me, it’s just me, from our first call to your final gallery. That means the person photographing your vows already knows your plan, your light, and the people you love. I’ll help you feel comfortable, find the rhythm of the day, and create something that reflects not just how it looked, but how it felt.
A Glimpse Into My Story
I didn’t begin with a camera. I started with blueprints.
By day I’m a civil engineer helping build San Francisco, and that work taught me to see the world through structure and light. It was during engineering school that I first picked up a camera, photographing landscapes and architecture with the same intention I brought to blueprints. That instinct still quietly guides every image I make. And because I take on a limited number of weddings each year, each one gets my full attention.
I started MDC Studio in 2021, and for years I photographed every corner of life in San Francisco. Each session, whatever it was, taught me something about light, about people, and about the moments worth preserving.
After years of photographing families, events, and meaningful milestones throughout the city, I made the deliberate decision to center my work on what I love most: intimate weddings, City Hall ceremonies, and engagements, the moments that mark the beginning of a life together.
My Philosophy
“Behind every photograph is a decision. Where to stand, when to step back, how light shapes the moment. Intention is what turns a memory into something lasting.”
About My Clients
People who value presence over perfection.
The couples I work with plan their wedding the way they approach most things: carefully, and on purpose. A venue with real character. Design that feels edited, never empty. A day built around the people closest to them rather than an obligation to everyone else. They care about how their photographs feel, not just how they look, and they would rather be present than posed. My job is to make space for what’s real.
